FAME 2 Subsidy , Vehicle List, Last Date & Eligibility Explained

FAME 2 Subsidy : In recent years, electric vehicles (EVs) have been popping up more frequently on Indian roads. Whether it’s a sleek two-wheeler quietly cruising through city lanes or an e-rickshaw buzzing past traffic, the shift is hard to miss. One of the biggest reasons behind this growth is the FAME 2 subsidy a government initiative aimed at making electric mobility more affordable.

But what exactly is the FAME 2 subsidy? Who is eligible for it? What kind of vehicles are covered? And most importantly, how can someone benefit from it?

What Is FAME 2 Subsidy?

The full form of FAME is Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles. The first phase of the scheme started in 2015, but FAME 2, which is the second phase, kicked off in April 2019.

The purpose? To encourage more Indians to switch from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric alternatives by providing financial support.

This means when someone buys an electric scooter, three-wheeler, or electric bus that’s eligible, the government covers a part of the cost—making the vehicle cheaper right from the showroom.

FAME 2 Subsidy Eligibility

Not all EVs qualify for this subsidy. To ensure quality and long-term impact, the government has set certain criteria,

  • Approval: It must be listed in the FAME 2 subsidy vehicle list released by the Department of Heavy Industries.
  • Battery type: Only vehicles with advanced batteries like lithium-ion are eligible.
  • Speed and range: Two-wheelers must have a minimum top speed of 40 km/h and a range of 80 km or more per charge.
  • Localization: The vehicle should be manufactured or assembled in India.

What Types of Vehicles Are Covered in FAME 2?

FAME 2 provides incentives for several categories of EVs:

1. Electric Two-Wheelers (E-scooters and Bikes)

This is the most popular category among city riders. From office goers to students, many have switched to electric scooters thanks to reduced costs under FAME 2.

Some common models include:

  • Ola S1 Air
  • Ather 450X
  • TVS iQube
  • Hero Vida V1

Subsidy amount: ₹15,000 per kWh of battery capacity
Cap per vehicle: Up to 40% of the total price

2. Electric Three-Wheelers

These include both passenger and cargo versions. They’re ideal for delivery services, auto drivers, and urban mobility.

Subsidy: ₹10,000 per kWh
Popular models: Mahindra Treo, Piaggio Ape E-Xtra

3. Electric Four-Wheelers

While private four-wheelers are largely excluded now, commercial EVs like electric taxis and fleet vehicles can still benefit.

Used by: Taxi operators, corporate transport services
Subsidy: ₹10,000 per kWh

4. Electric Buses

For public transport authorities, electric buses are being promoted heavily under this scheme. These help reduce pollution in densely populated cities.
